BMW, the luxury gar giant with German roots is on a portfolio revamp overdrive- as is clear from its recent moves with the 2018 BMW 8-Series. The 8 series concept vehicle may finally be heading to production ramp if the industry sources are to be believed. It may be released as a 2018 model. It will sit above the company’s 6 series.
2018 BMW 8-Series – Fantastic Appearance
The 2018 BMW 8-Series may be released as a gran coupe model but a convertible model is also on the cards, say industry insiders. The test model has been seen several times. The sleek roofline is clear and there are 4 doors on its body. The back side of the vehicle will have LED tail-lights and the front side will be Laserlight technology driven lamps. Both bumpers feature massive air vents and back bumper gets hexagonal dual exhaust pipes.
The kidney bean style dual grille will get new vertical slats. All models will be based on the BMW’s CLAR platform. The seats are wrapped in leather and carbon fiber shell. In fact, the cabin gets plenty of carbon fiber accents. Overall, the interior design is sporty and stylish. It will also be laden with plenty of amenities.
The BMW has not said much on the safety technologies and amenities to be used in the upcoming 8 Series. However, like all other vehicles in the lineup- the 8 series is likely to be laden with top features in both segments. So, you can expect it to come with several airbags and new collision avoidance tech. BMW will also deploy its new infotainment system replete with navigation and Smartphone integration. Features like multi-zone air conditioning and cabin ambient lighting are also expected. A lot of customization including upholstery and music system are on the cards.
Engine Expectations of the 2018 BMW 8-Series
The drivetrain details of the 2018 BMW 8-Series are not clear. However, the engines may be taken from the company’s popular 7 series. So, you can expect it to be equipped with a range of turbocharged 6 and eight-cylinder units. However, the BMW may also release a turbo-diesel six-cylinder engine.
The 2018 BMW 8-Series will get an AWD setup and the engine may be clubbed with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Industry experts predict BMW will also unveil a hybrid version later. All 8-series models will get double wishbone as well as the multi-link suspension to enhance ride quality. Nothing is known about fuel economy yet.
Cost and Expected Launch Date
The BMW is mum on the expected pricing of 2018 8-series. However, the entry-level model will surely be priced higher than the 6 series. The release date should be in 2018.
The 2018 BMW 8-Series is likely to be an interesting counter from the iconic German carmaker. It will have several editions and engine options will be aplenty as well. The pricing and features details are yet to be disclosed but the styling is captivating- to say the least. With the 8 series, BMW may be able to pose the stiff challenge to rivals like Porsche and Mercedes Benz.
