The GM is known for making some of the most versatile and durable pickup truck models and the 2018 Chevrolet Colorado is among the most popular ones from its stable.
The midsized truck has been used since its inception for literally every task you can think of – including towing boats to carrying logs to distant locations and conquering rough terrains with aplomb. It is also known for rugged and macho styling that turn heads on the roads.
2018 Chevrolet Colorado – Design Changes
The 2018 Chevrolet Colorado does not get much styling changes for its exterior. There are trims like Work Truck, LT, Z71 and ZR2- the last one meant for off-road enthusiasts. The model comes in crew cab and extended cab builds and you can opt for short or long bed lengths. The 100th Anniversary Edition is available on the Z71 trim crew and extended cab models. These trucks get Centennial Blue exterior, special graphics on the body, spray-in bed liner.
It also gets 18-inch wheels. The ZR2 gets unique styled grille, 17-inch wheels. Trims are available in colors like Kinetic Blue and Satin Steel Gray Metallic. Wheel sizes begin from 16 inches and can be up to 18 inches.
The cabin remains largely the same as 2017 model. Quality of materials in most trims is however strictly average. The Canyon trucks have better interiors. In Z71 trim, you get -accented interior which is simpler to maintain. You get a center-console bin and small item storage cubbies in the cabin.
Safety and Amenities
The GM has enhanced the safety and amenities in 2018 Chevrolet Colorado though it still lags behind Ford F-150 series. The teen driver system is included in each trim as is a set of airbags. Each trim gets stability control, traction control with a rearview camera as well. However, advanced safety features like a forward-collision warning and lane-departure warning are kept optional. Chevrolet MyLink infotainment with 7 and 8-inch display is there and wifi hotspot feature is optional. OnStar 4G LTE is standard in Z71 trim. You get a few packages like the luxury package and top trim can be laden with a Bose sound system too.
Engine Specs and Towing Capacity
The 2018 Chevrolet Colorado is laden with an inline-four engine for base trim. You can choose a 3.6-liter V-6 engine that makes 308 HP. Performance seekers should go for the 2.8-liter Turbo diesel unit that produces 181 horsepower. Maximum towing capacity is 7400 pounds when you use the Trailering Equipment package. Both the V 6 and diesel engines offer good acceleration and ride quality.
Price and Availability
The base trim of 2018 Chevrolet Colorado is approx $21.000 but the ZR2 trim price can reach $42.000 based on customization. The new model will be available at the beginning of 2018.
The 2018 Chevrolet Colorado gets moderate styling and spec update. The engine choices are solid and enhanced safety features make it worth recommending. However, the cabin still lacks in craftsmanship compared to category rivals.
