The fifth generation 2018 Hyundai Accent was recently showcased at the much awaited International Auto Show in Toronto. This model made heads turn at the event and most of the industry buzz around it is positive.
2018 Hyundai Accent – Revamped Design
The 2018 Hyundai Accent sports a slightly revamped design and it is a tad bigger than the previous model, both outside and inside. It is made of lightweight high strength steel and this helps in enhancing durability while reducing weight. The model will be launched as a subcompact sedan in most markets. However, the Canadians will get a hatchback variant.
The hexagonal grille and headlamps look similar but on closer look, you will notice small changes in styling. Overall, design resemblances with the company’s larger sedan Elantra are quite clear. It will be sold in a number of trims. The wraparound angular tail lamps look attractive, for sure. On top trims, 17-inch alloy wheels will be offered as an option.
The cabin of 2018 Hyundai Accent looks sleek if not exactly lavish. The dual tone upholstery, soft-touch surfaces, and a redesigned dashboard, ooze sophistication. Owing to the larger size, it is expected that its cargo capacity will also go up.
The cabin will get a lot of small item storage cubicles. The rear seats can be folded as per user needs.
For an entry-level compact sedan, the 2018 Hyundai Accent packs in decent features. The infotainment setup is not floating- it is ducked onto the car’s dashboard. The 7-inch display is sleek and the setup is compatible with smartphones.
The model gets features like push-button start and automatic emergency braking. You also get a backup camera and heated front seats can be added. Optional features also include keyless entry.
Powertrain and Transmission
The 2018 Hyundai Accent is powered by the 1.6-liter inline-four engine and this makes 137 HP. This is the only powertrain choice you get. However, the fact that the 2018 Accent weighs less than the existing model will be helpful.
You get six-speed manual transmission gearbox as standard but optional is a six-speed automatic gearbox.
The company says the new Accent will offer better fuel economy. Its drive quality gets a boost thanks to the deployment of revamped suspension and Motor-Driven Power Steering. These make the new Accent more nimble and body roll is also diminished to an extent.
2018 Hyundai Accent Hybrid
There are some rumors that Hyundai has a plan to include hybrid powertrain in the Accent offer. This hybrid powertrain would consist of a 1.4-liter petrol engine with 90 hp and electric motor with 15 hp. Our source says that during a testing of 2018 Hyundai Accent Hybrid, it turned out that it has for more than 40% better fuel economy than the petrol version.
Decent Price and Launch Date
The 2018 Hyundai Accent will be priced approximately at $16,000 and top trim pricing can be around $19,000. It is going to reach the showrooms soon. However, the Canadian version of 2018 Accent could be launched in the first quarter of 2018.
Summing it up
The 2018 Hyundai Accent is a nice compact sedan that has got enhancements at the right places. You will like the new exterior design and reduced weight which will lead to better fuel efficiency. The cabin is decent and you get quality materials inside.
