2018 New Cars

2018 Kia Optima Review

This year, the 2018 Kia Optima gets a new trim along with safety features that make it a more competent choice to costlier rivals. Over the years, the South Korea based Kia Motors has been trying to shed its image of a company making cheap vehicles.

The latest offerings from Kia’s stable are the testimony to the company’s effort to produce more upscale and value for money automobiles.

The Optima is a nice mid-sized sedan that competes with rivals like VW Passat, Skoda Superb and Ford Mondeo etc. For 2018, the Optima is getting a refresh.

2018 Kia Optima – Handsome Looking

There is no denying that the 2018 Kia Optima is a handsome looking car, no matter which angle you look at it from. It does not look very different from the 2017 model. But at closer inspection, you will find small differences in grille and bumper shape and design. The roofline is coupe like and

The roofline is coupe like and the body has more curvature than sharp creases. It has an overall sporty look but the design is not gaudy by any means. The cabin of 2018 Kia Optima is very comfortable. It is roomy and material quality is not cheap, even in the base trim.

There are 4 trims- LX, EX, S and SX. Cargo capacity is decent but coupe type roof eschews rear seat space to an extent.

Safety Features

Despite its entry level price tag, the 2018 Kia Optima does not cut down either on safety or facility. All trims get a rearview camera, blind-spot monitors, and rear parking assistance. The features include airbags, hill-start assist electronic stability control as well. Optional is automatic emergency braking.

Base trim gets Bluetooth, 7.0-inch touch screen, and also keyless ignition. S trim gets 17-inch wheels, optional dual-panel sunroof and unique front bumper.

Furthermore, the EX gets standard leather seats, dual-zone climate control, woodgrain trim and heated front seats.

The SX trim adds 18-inch wheels, 8.0-inch touch screen, glossy black trim and adaptive headlights.

Engine Options

The 2018 Kia Optima comes equipped with a 2.4-liter inline-4 engine which makes 185 HP. The engine is clubbed with a 6-speed automatic gearbox. This combination is also good enough for urban driving needs. LX trim can be equipped with an optional 1.6-liter turbo-4 unit making 178 HP.

This engine gets clubbed with a dual-clutch7-speed automatic gearbox. Top of the line is a 2.0-liter turbo-4 unit which is used in the SX trim. This engine makes 245 HP and is most powerful of the lot, beyond doubt. The Kia makes use of effective noise insulation technology to ensure cabin remains quiet at all times.

However, the ride quality is good with very little body roll and the 2018 Optima does a nice job of absorbing bumps and potholes. There are drive modes like Normal, Eco and Sport.
