The new 2018 Lexus RX 350 has an aggressive styling, much like most of its stable mates. However, you will not find the bulbous exterior of its predecessor because of the design tweak in the 2018 model.
Despite the dominance of German and British luxury brands like Rolls Royce and BMW, the position of Lexus has become more consolidated in this segment over the years. Some design changes have taken place but the changes inside the cabin are more noteworthy, as it is.
2018 Lexus RX 350 – Exterior and Cabin Design
The new model has a razor-sharp grille and bigger wheels. The massive spindle grille and “triple-L” headlights with DRL are standard. However, it has the floating roof line, which catches the eyes most and it gives the car an almost Coupe like the look. From side, it resembles the Nissan Murano to an extent.
The cabin is quite sophisticated and lavish. It is a welcome departure from what you see in the BMW and Audi models, as it is. It can accommodate 5 adults and seats are pretty large and comfortable. The cabin remains quiet thanks to Lexus’s use of several sound insulating technology and materials.
One nice thing is that the large panoramic sunroof does not cut into the head room in the cabin. However, it is not a car you would want if cargo space is important for you.
The default cargo space is only 18.4 cubic feet and here most rivals are ahead of the 2018 Lexus RX 350. Towing capacity is 3500 pounds which are kind of decent for this class.
Safety and Entertainment
The 2018 Lexus RX 350 gets good marks in both safety and entertainment segments and comes close to the German and Italian rivals, as it is. The active-safety systems include automatic high beam headlamps, lane-keep assist, automatic emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.
You may opt for additional safety features like rear cross-traffic alert and Blind-spot monitors. Of course, you get 10 airbags and the rearview camera.
Amenities include keyless ignition, 2 zones automatic climate control, privacy glass, power liftgate, smartphone-integrated navigation. Optional amenities are Premium package, Navigation package, and Luxury package. Audiophiles can pay extra and get an excellent Mark Levinson sound system with 15 speakers.
The 2018 Lexus RX 350 is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 engine which is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox. The engine will produce 295 horsepower and 267 lb-ft of torque.
This is a nice combination and acceleration is not an issue. Though the car is not the fastest in its class, it never feels sluggish, even with full load. The F Sport version gets a special adaptive suspension.
The model comes with EPA city/highway fuel economy of 20/27 mpg (FWD) and 19/26 mpg for the (AWD).
Launch Date and Cost
Exact release date of the 2018 Lexus RX 350 is unknown but it could hit roads in late 2017. Base trim pricing may be close to 44,000.
Summing it up
The 2018 Lexus RX 350 is nice mid- sized luxury crossover that gets several things in place. The styling is attractive and the cabin is plush and full of amenities. The powertrain is also superb and apart from cargo space, there is nothing to grudge about.
