The 2018 Lotus Exige Cup 430 Roadster was revealed earlier this week and pronounced the most extreme British sports car replica ever engineered and built. This small, light and agile sports car provides an unlimited amount of fun. The new lightweight racer can sprint from 0-60 mph in 3.3 seconds, with speed topping out at 290 km/h or 180 mph. Its lap time was recorded at 1 minute 24.8 seconds in Britain’s Hethel circuit.
The carmaker expansively used carbon-fiber materials to slash the dry weight down in comparison to the Lotus Exige Cup 380, its immediate predecessor. The total weight has been cut down by about 12 kilograms or 26 pounds. This time, the 430’s power-to-weight ratio stands at 407hp while that of the Cup 380 is only 355.
2018 Lotus Exige Cup 430 Roadster – Carbon-fiber Components
The 2018 Lotus Exige Cup 430 Roadster is light and has clever aerodynamics that can accomplish a more significant downforce. Its headlining features comprise a broad range of carbon-fiber components in the side air intakes, front splitter, tailgate, front access panel and race-derived rear wing.
Jean-Marc Gales, Lotus Group CEO had the following to say: “The 2018 Lotus Exige Cup 430 Roadster is the car that we’ve always wanted to create. I have no doubt that every Lotus enthusiast is going to be satisfied with the final product. We’ve hiked the Lotus 430’s power and made an array of improvements in areas that are essential to its DNA.”
“Additionally,” he continued, “we’ve tweaked and tuned the Exige’s incredible chassis to ensure that its devotees can exploit its full potential. I don’t see any car that can rival our 2018 Lotus Exige Cup 430 Roadster both inside and out of its price bracket. This indication isn’t just a mere exaggeration, but I mean it when I say that no other car can match the new Lotus Exige on the road or track.”
The new Lotus version also showcases ultra-lightweight 17-inch front and 18-inch rear alloy wheels in the arches. These wheels are wrapped in 215/45 front and 285/30 rear Michelin Sports Cup Pilot 2 rubber tires. False 4-piston AP Racing brake calipers are visible behind the rims, and Lotus linked them to J-hook two-piece brake discs.
Other highlights worth mentioning include a lithium-ion battery pack, a T45 steel roll bar, and front towing eye. We also find carbon fiber race seats which get trimmed in Alcantara. The car’s center console, doors, and dashboard also feature Alcantara finishing. You can opt for tartan or leather at no extra cost.
2018 Lotus Exige Cup 430 Roadster – Engine Power and Gearbox
The new Lotus Exige Cup 430 Roadster gets its power from a renovated 3.5-liter V6 supercharged engine, which also powers the bigger Lotus Evora GT430. By now you probably know what 430 should mean. If not, it stands for the fact that this unit yields 430-hp of power at 7,000 rpm and 440-Nm of torque at 4,000rpm. The 6-speed manual transmission sends the drive to the rear wheels.
