Honda has made a virtual revelation of its mid-engine sports car dubbed 2019 Honda Sports Vision Gran Turismo Concept. This sports car has been appearing in patent drawings for the past two years, and Honda has gladly exposed it to the public. A lot of cars that are designed for the Gran Turismo’s Vision GT series are naturally wild fantasy machines. However, Honda took a new approach with its Sports Vision Gran Turismo.
The manufacturer officially publicized its Sports Vision GT this week in the virtual world. Seemingly, the 2019 Honda Sports Vision Gran Turismo Concept highlights the same style as its miniature NSX sibling. As of now, this edition is only available in the video-game world, and no real-world version exists.
2019 Honda Sports Vision Gran Turismo – Design Review
This car will join the 162 cars featuring in the Gran Turismo Sports video game for Sony’s PlayStation. Many other Honda models have already made their way into the game, such as NSX, Civic Type R and Project 2&4 concept. Honda’s compact Sports Vision Gran Turismo is extraordinarily light and sturdy due to the extensive utilization of carbon-fiber materials.
The automaker has sculpted the shape of the 2019 Honda Sports Vision Gran Turismo in a wind tunnel. Its body, engine bay, and cabin have been optimized in line with lightning lap requirements in the virtual world. In profile, this sports car model has sharp rear intakes which reflect those of the NSX. It also bears some shades of the Civic Si coupe at the back.
The 2-seater 2019 Honda Sports Vision Gran Turismo coupe has proportions that make it look as if it wants to propel itself forward. The manufacturer paid attention to the exhaust and how air flows through the body. Honda engineers and designers combined their input to create something that would thrill the sports cars aficionados.
The Los Angeles studio was tasked with creating a 1:4 scale version of the Sports Vision GT. A full-scale replica was further made for purposes of wind-tunnel testing. Engineers used carbon-fiber in many body parts to help bring down the weight to just 1,982 pounds.
2019 Honda Sports Vision Gran Turismo – Turbo DOHC-VTEC Engine
The 2019 Honda Sports Vision Gran Turismo uses a mid-mounted 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo DOHC-VTEC engine. This one is the same unit that was fitted into the Honda Civic Type R, although here the engine is dialed up to realize 404-bhp at 7,500rpm. An eight-speed dual clutch transmission distributes power to the wheels.
Interestingly, Honda mentioned nothing about the electronic hardware or hybrid unit like the one highlighted in the NSX. Perhaps the lack of a hybrid drivetrain will slash weight further down. Nevertheless, it seems like a strange decision since the Sports Vision Gran Turismo is the brand’s flagship supercar.
2019 Honda Sports Vision Gran Turismo – Production
Honda is yet to announce when the Sports Vision Gran Turismo goes into production. But, we believe it goes into production next year. The brand made an affirmation that the Sports Vision GT only exists as a concept engineered and designed for the virtual world. This mid-engine sports car is going to give the NSX a run for its money.
