There are off-road centric luxury SUVs but few can come close to the impressive legacy and overall prowess of the 2019 Mercedes Benz G-Class. The latest news is that the iconic German automaker is all set to give an overhaul to the G Class SUV for the first time since its inception in 1979. It is a wonder that the original model managed to retain its popularity over 4 decades but a redesign will allow it to stave off competition from JLR.

The 2019 Mercedes Benz G-Class is unveiled at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show. Of late before show the test models were spied in Nurburgring. Originally developed as a vehicle for military and off-road usage, it has adapted to user changes and the new model gets its dose of luxury as well. The company will make it at the Austria plant.

As is evident from the latest images, the 2019 Mercedes G-Class will not look very different compared to the existing model. The company did not want to deviate from the classic boxy design. While the new model will get a full frame and ladder frame chassis, the use of aluminum in construction will help it shed weight. That will be helpful for both acceleration and fuel economy. This time, the model will be slightly longer, which means enhanced interior space. There could be 4 trim levels, and an AMG G65 may be the top contender.

The images of upcoming G Class’s cabin have also appeared online. Form this image it is clear that the cabin will get the real changes than the exterior of the vehicle. The material quality is going to get a major boost for 2019 with a lavish cabin awaiting buyers. The images reveal a 12.3-inch touchscreen in the dashboard and new steering wheel, borrowed from the S Class lineup. The car may get either an analog instrument cluster or digital unit. The cargo capacity can be a tad better than what you get in the existing model.

Standard and Optional Package

The many standard types of equipment come with the new 2019 Mercedes Benz G-Class Nappa. The included leather seats that will be heated and ventilated and dual-zone climate control. For the infotainment, it will be charged the new big 8-inch infotainment system with updated navigation and graphics. Furthermore, this package will also have an Apple CarPlay and Android Auto smartphone integration. For the audio system, we expect same 12-speaker Harman/Kardon system that is also present in the current model.

As for the safety, standard trim will brings adaptive cruise control, rearview camera, parking sensors and blind-spot monitoring. The semi-autonomous driving features are not sadly available in this model.

However, with the optional equipment package, you will get an adjustable suspension, heated steering wheel, plusher leather, lacquered wood trim, rear-seat entertainment system and others.  In the optional, there will be also the Night Package. This one will give the 2019 Mercedes Benz G-Class classy black AMG 19-inch wheels. Also, in this pack is exterior accents with gloss-black and black outdoors protective strips.

With a rugged look and off-road centric suspension notwithstanding, the 2019 G-class is also replete with several advanced safety technologies and amenities have been spruced up to a large extent. Also, the Active Lane Keeping Assist and collision avoidances features is there.

The 2019 Mercedes Benz G-Class is a revamped luxury SUV which does not lose its focus on off-roading. The changes are in the cabin and the powertrain efficacy also gets a boost. In this pricing range, there are no opponents, because Land Rover Range Rover, Infiniti QX80, Lexus LX,  Porsche Cayenne or Cadillac Escalade with full load equipment cannot approach the price of the 2019 Mercedes Benz G-Class.
