The 2019 Subaru WRX new gen will be based on new VIZIV performance concept, according to the company’s latest show car which was revealed earlier this week at the Tokyo Motor Show. The future performance sedan embodies the brand’s vision of building cars that can deliver absolute peace of mind and enjoyment.
The new gen Subaru WRX becomes the first sedan in the Subaru Vision for Innovation (VIZIV) concept lineup. The concept series is only comprised of crossovers thus far, which implies that the inbound WRX sedan will be the first one in the sequence. We believe that the VIZIV performance concept functions as a preview of the next-gen WRX that will greet the dealerships in mid-2018.
We also reckon that Subaru will significantly moderate the overall design of this concept prior to going for production. That could mean the inbound Subaru WRX model would look less sexy than the concept revealed in Tokyo. This package will bring back an upgraded design that includes the symmetrical all-wheel-drive, hood scoop and the boxer engine.
2019 Subaru WRX – Extended Wheelbase
Subaru’s next generation of WRX will share the same Subaru Global Platform with its Impreza sibling. Since it is a modular platform, it will accommodate the extended wheelbase of this sporty sedan. Subaru has hinted that Viziv stands on 20-inch wheels with 245/40 tires, but the production version of the Subaru WRX is unlikely to sport this wheel and tire combination as standard.
Additionally, the new Subaru WRX version comes with a lot of lightweight carbon-fiber elements in the fenders, bumpers, quarter panels, and roof. There’s a big rear diffuser that is housing staggered twin exhaust vents on either side.
It is evident that the 2019 Subaru WRX utilizes unique body parts in comparison to the previous WRX editions. The next-gen Subaru WTX sports more distinctive flared guards than the previous auto. It also conveys a more high-rise boot and angular glasshouse in comparison to its precursor.
When it comes to dimensions, the new gen 2019 Subaru WRX measures 182.28 inches long, 76.77 inches wide, and 56.30 inches high. Its wheelbase stretches up to 93.31 inches, which is about 2.36 inches longer than the ongoing Impreza’s wheelbase. The VIZIV Performance appears to mirror the incumbent WRX, but is considerably wider and has approximately 3.15 inches of additional space between the axles.
Other highlights we can see on the Subaru WRX include the newest EyeSight Driver-Assistance technologies. The carmaker says plans are underway to roll out the EyeSight technology enhancements across the brand’s portfolio by 2020. Some of these upgrades comprise a highly-precise GPS/navigation and radar.
2019 Subaru WRX – Engine and CVT Gearbox
The manufacturer hasn’t revealed much, and it might be challenging to tell whatever lies under the pumped-up body of this 2019 Subaru WRX. But, we’ve confirmed that a traditional boxer engine will power this four-door sedan. Also, it boasts the brand’s signature all-wheel-drive setup.
The next-gen Subaru WRX is likely to get its juice from a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder horizontally-opposed powertrain. It has increased outputs compared to today’s version, which flaunts 268 HP. The engine gets linked to either a 6-speed manual transmission or a continuously variable transmission (CVT) gearbox.
2019 Subaru WRX – Expected Release Date, Cost and Rivals
Expect the 2019 Subaru WRX to show up in mid-2018. The price is not yet officially announced. Some of the rivals will be Ford Mustang and Mitsubishi Lancer.
