The 2019 VW Amarok is a utility pickup truck that will arrive with a plenty of updates. The exterior didn’t suffer significant improvements, but on the other side, the interior did. A new powertrain is in the offer as well, and it can produce more horsepower and torque than the existing engines.
Sadly, Amarok never managed to reach the U.S. market. It makes sense as the U.S. is packed with a wide-range of established pickups. However, this could change in 2019 according to some rumors. Amarok is a natural hauler and its towing ability is great. Moreover, this mid-size pickup is a great off-roader and it offers an optional four-wheel drive configuration.
2019 VW Amarok changes and updates
The 2019 VW Amarok will get a deserved exterior update, however, the changes are minor. The front end now sports a more modern styling that reminds us of the 2010 model. New grille’s design comes with two horizontal bars and the lower fascia is sportier. Side profile looks the same with the squared fender flares and sculpted windows.
Side steps are still available as a part of an optional equipment. At the rear, the changes are minimal, however, this part already features a modern look. The rear bumper is slimmer and frame-mounted trailer hitch is optional. The tailgate is lockable which prevents thieves from stealing.
2019 VW Amarok inside the cabin
Most of the changes that happened in the upcoming model, happened inside the cabin. Those funky round air vents are ditched, just like the aging steering wheel and a smaller infotainment display. All of the mentioned features are replaced with more modern and upscale amenities, the steering wheel now adds piano black accents and button controls.
The gauge cluster is slightly reworked and it adds a 3D driver information screen. Center stack is completely reworked, it features a larger screen with updated software. Things such as the dashboard and center console are the same as in the previous one. Thanks to the software update, USB connectivity, phone connectivity and even a Bluetooth are now available. When it comes to comfort, Amarok is perfect for longer family trips. The front seats are comfortable and are featuring a new 14-way Ergo-Comfort system. Heated leather seats are optional.
2019 VW Amarok engine output and acceleration
The all-new 2019 VW Amarok will run on a single powertrain option. The previous 2.0-liter TDI engine with four-cylinder is ditched for a new 3.0-liter V6 turbodiesel. This TDI powertrain is available in two tunes where higher-strung version produces up to 220 HP and 406 lb-ft of torque. It is available with an 8-speed automatic transmission.
With this unit, Amarok hits from 0 to 62 mph in 7.9 seconds, and rear-wheel drive is standard. 4Motion all-wheel-drive configuration is optional and more recommendable. Lower tune of the diesel powertrain returns 161 HP and it offers only manual transmission.
2019 VW Amarok price and release date
The upcoming 2019 VW Amarok is available for a $29,000. Thanks to the new updates, the price is higher, but not significantly. This pickup will arrive in the last quarter of 2019. If the rumors are true, new Amarok could go on sale in the U.S. but not before 2020.
