At the Geneva International Show in March, Subaru will present its latest concept named VIZIV Tourer Concept. The name is somewhat shortened version of “Vision for innovation” and it presents the next generation of the wagon. Subaru uses the Viziv name in the past when some important concepts were made.
For example, the 2019 Subaru Ascent was firstly named the “Viziv-7 concept” when presented at 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show. Now, the Viziv Tourer Concept will announce the next generation of WRX Wagon.
Of course, it could mean anything, but shadowy photos that Subaru released are telling us it really does look like a wagon vehicle. Those photos giving us a clear shot of a body panel gap that wraps around the taillights and rear glass. The design is attractive and the taillights are better looking. The roof is long and the rear end looks taller. The Tourer concept will keep the same wheelbase length as the saloon model. However, the length will be slightly longer.
Also, Subaru presented their Viziv Performance Concept at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show where we had an opportunity to see the next generations of WRX and STI models.
Subaru’s EyeSight technology
If this concept is a WRX wagon, that news will come with huge rejoice having in mind that this body style is not on the market since 2007. The WRX’s third-generation came as a hatchback but the next generation only offered a sedan version. Engine details are not provided, yet. Additionally, WRX is made on the new Subaru Global Platform just like Subaru Impreza.
The platform will come with Subaru’s EyeSight technology. It consists of driver assist systems that will enable some functions like autonomous emergency braking, driver fatigue detection and side impact alert. This system is also in some present vehicles. However, until the WRX debut, the EyeSight will be available with even more active forms. Moreover, the hardware will be coming advanced semi-autonomous functions, even that Subaru plans to make WRX a driver-centric vehicle.
The upcoming WRX will apparently come with a 2.5-liter boxer engine that comes with automatic transmission. This should benefit a better handling as a result. As the Subaru’s design chief Mamoru Ishii claims, the boxer engines were not a crucial component for many customers but were very helpful. He also hinted that electrification will play a huge part in the future. That means the hybrid version is a possibility but only around a year after releasing the WRX Wagon.
Release Date and Conclusion
It has come as a disappointment for many fans that the current generation of WRX does not look like the concept from a couple of years ago. So now, everyone is hoping that Subaru will stick to the plan and these impressive looking concepts. We expect that will model WRX Wagon debut in two years from now.
